Many record types allow for activities to be associated with them. For example, for an opportunity, you might have an associated phone call activity. When you close any associated activity with the status of completed, that activity shows up in the record history, which you can view by clicking History under Details in that record.

The History pane for opportunities, accounts, and contacts includes these two drop-down boxes that help you narrow down the list of completed activities:
Select Related Regarding Recordsto pull in a list of activities that are related to any record associated with the account or contact. For example, let's say you have an account named Cerberus Expeditions. In this account, you create an order named Waterproof hiking boots. For the order, you create a phone call activity named Call to verify order.
Now, when you look at the Activities tab of the Cerberus Expeditions record, the Call to verify order is listed when you use the Related Regarding Records filter. Or, if you complete that activity, it will be listed on the History tab when you use the Related Regarding Records filter.
