Export Customizations and Configurations

Use the Export Customizations list to view and export customizations and configurations from Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online. The exported customizations are saved as a compressed (.zip) file that can be used as a backup, or to import into another Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online implementation.

Exporting Customizations

Items available for export

1. In the Navigation Pane, click Settings, click Customization, and then click Export Customizations.
2. To export all customizations and settings click Export All Customizations.

3. To filter the list of items to export

   Select one of the available filters:

   • All Customizations
   • Custom and Customizable Entities
   • Custom Entities
   • Customizable Entities
   • Settings
   • Workflows
   • Security Roles
   • Client Extensions
   • Templates
4. To only export customizations to selected items, select the items, then on the Actions toolbar, click More Actions, and then click Export Selected Customizations.

   Note: The default security settings of Internet Explorer will block downloading files to your computer. To address this issue, click the Internet Explorer Information bar, and then click Download File. The file will not download right away, but if you try exporting customizations again it will succeed.More information: Exporting and Importing Customizations and Configurations - Troubleshooting

5. Name and save the compressed (.zip) file. The compressed file contains the customizations.xml file, which contains the definitions of the items you have exported.

Important

• When you create a custom entity, you must publish the entity before you export it. If you export an entity that is not published, some fields in the export file may be blank.
• Relationships and mappings between selected custom entities and any non-selected custom entities will not be included. Relationships and mappings for system entities will be included.
• Do not add additional files to a compressed (.zip) file that contains customizations and settings exported from Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online. Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online will attempt to import the first file in the compressed (.zip) file. If that is not a valid file the import will fail.
• Some user information may be exported when exporting workflows, for example, the domain logon, the Forms Authentication user name, or the Windows Live unique user identifier (PUID) value.
