Add a credit to an invoice

Microsoft Dynamics CRM currently doesn't have a tool for crediting an invoice. Here, we offer a couple of workarounds so you can achieve a credit.

  • If you want to credit an amount for a specific product in an invoice:
    1. You are going to add a new product to the invoice that is identical to the one you'd like to credit. In the Navigation Pane, click Sales, and then click Invoices. In the list, select the invoice. Depending on the type of product, under Details, click either Write-In Products or Existing Products.
    2. Click the New Invoice Product button to add another line item with that product. The Invoice Product: New dialog box opens.
    3. Select the identical product and unit as that for the product you'd like to credit.
    4. Return to the General tab, select Override Price, enter Price Per Unit as 1, enter Quantity as 0, and then enter the credit amount in the Manual Discount field. Now the calculation of that line item will be negative the amount that you provided in the Manual Discount field. Click Save and Close. When you save this line item, the invoice amount will automatically be recalculated.

    3. Create a write-in product called credited amount. Enter the Price Per Unit as 1, enter Quantity as 0, and then enter the credit amount in the Manual Discount field. Now the write-in product will contain the negative value. Click Save and Close. When you save this line item, the invoice amount will automatically be recalculated.
