Microsoft Dynamics CRM is designed to be customized. You get the most benefit from CRM when you tailor it to your organization. And you don't even have to be a developer to do the most common customizations.
In CRM, an entity represents a type of record.
There are many entities in CRM. For example, Account is an entity.
When you customize the Account entity, that change appears in every new or existing Account record.
Each entity contains:
- A definition of the form that people use to enter and view records.
- All the system views that people use to find records.
- All the fields (also called attributes) that can be displayed in the form.
- Definitions of how the entity is related to other entities.
CRM comes with a set of standard entities called system entities. Many system entities are customizable.
You can also create custom entities for new record types.
Many system entities, and all custom entities, can be customized.
For these customizable entities, you can add or remove fields and change the layout of the form, create custom attributes to add as fields to the form, change the name displayed for an entity, modify existing system views and add new ones, and add new entity relationships
There are also opportunities for more advanced customizations where a developer can change the behavior of the application or integrate other web applications.
Finally, you can purchase solutions created by others and import them to add new capabilities to your system.
You don't need to be a developer to perform the most common types of customizations available for Microsoft Dynamics CRM. You maximize the benefit of CRM when you customize it to match the way your business works.
