Can I make a record private?

A record is private only if all security roles only include the Read privilege at the User for the record type, and if the record has not been shared.

For example, by default, all security roles include the Read privilege at the Organization level for contacts, accounts, and activities, so unless security roles have been customized in your organization, account, contact, and activity records are not private. A user cannot reduce privileges that are granted in security roles.
