Importing data is likely to be your first step after you set up Microsoft Dynamics CRM. You need to bring data from your legacy databases and systems into Microsoft Dynamics CRM before you start using the data. You can use the Import Data Wizard A wizard used to import multiple records from a comma-delimited text file into Microsoft Dynamics CRM as records. to import many record types, such as accounts, contacts, and activities, into Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
You can also create new record types if you do not want to import data to the record types that already exist in Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
Everyone in your organization can use the Import Data Wizard, including people in sales, marketing, customer service, and administration.
To import data successfully into Microsoft Dynamics CRM, the data in your source files must map to the record types and fields in Microsoft Dynamics CRM. You can easily map your data by using:
- Data import templates that have all the necessary information to import data into any Microsoft Dynamics CRM record type.
- The Automatic Mapping feature of the Import Data Wizard, which tries to automatically map the data for you based on your source files and the XML mapping definitions and prompts you for input only when required. If your source file uses column headings that match Microsoft Dynamics CRM display names, the file is automatically mapped.
- Data maps that contain information about how data from a source system corresponds to data in Microsoft Dynamics CRM. You can use data maps if you frequently import data that is in the same format.
