What's new for administrators in Microsoft Dynamics CRM December 2012 Service Update

Microsoft Dynamics CRM December 2012 Service Update includes new and enhanced features that help you to increase your organization's effectiveness and productivity.

Note
The Bing support feature is available only if you have the Microsoft Dynamics CRM December 2012 Service Update, and if your organization has installed the Product Update for sales and service, or if your organization's subscription began after December, 2012.

New Microsoft Dynamics CRM List Component for Multiple Browsers

We’ve introduced new list components for Microsoft SharePoint 2010 and Microsoft SharePoint 2013 that will work with multiple browsers. If you are using the Document Management (SharePoint integration) functionality, and if you have a list component installed, you must upgrade it.

Download the list component from the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 List Component for SharePoint download page. More information can be found on the download page.

Product Updates

The Microsoft Dynamics CRM December 2012 Service Update includes various new features and fixes to existing features. For sales and service users, this service update provides a new guided process that leads you through the various phases of the sales and service processes.

For trials and subscriptions initiated after December 2012, the new features are included by default. If you are an existing Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online customer, you have the option of installing the new features by using new Product Update functionality in Microsoft Dynamics CRM December 2012 Service Update. This allows you to choose whether or not you want to install the Product Updates that are included in this service update.

Typically, new features require customizations to tailor these features to your business needs. For improved efficiency, this may also require educating your users on the new behavior. With that in mind, the installation of these new features is made optional. This ensures that the updates we introduce do not disrupt your business setup, and you have the power to install these only when your organization is ready for these changes. For more information, see Installing Product Updates.

Yammer Capabilities

Integration with Yammer lets your sales and customer service users collaborate as they work on records. They’ll see automatic notification whenever records are created or updated, and they can communicate in real time with conversation threads on the record wall—similar to social networking functionality. You’ll need to sign up for a Yammer account, install product updates, and then connect Yammer to your organization. Read more about installing product updates. Read more about Yammer.

Multiple Instances

Similar in the way that you can add user licenses or storage, you can also add instances to a Microsoft Dynamics CRM subscription. Each new instance that you add creates a separate and isolated Microsoft Dynamics CRM organization. This helps in maintaining distinct instances that are consistent with your organization’s unique needs, such as separate instances by department, location, or those to be used for pre-production and development. For more information, see Add an instance.

Support for Bing Maps

After you have the Microsoft Dynamics CRM December 2012 Service Update and install the Product Updates, the new guided sales process allows you to display Bing Maps information directly in the user’s workspace. After you install the new product updates for your organization, users who are accessing geographical data in a record will see a map control that allows them to zoom in and out, see nearby landmarks, and get directions. For more information, see Using Bing Maps with the new sales process.

Marketing Automation with MarketingPilot

With the acquisition of MarketingPilot by Microsoft, your sales and marketing people can now take advantage of the marketing capabilities of MarketingPilot, such as lead generation, marketing automation, customer insights, and campaign ROI tracking in Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

You can install the MarketingPilot Connector for Microsoft Dynamics CRM, which synchronizes data between MarketingPilot and Microsoft Dynamics CRM, letting users benefit from the best capabilities of both. For more information about installing the MarketingPilot Connector, visit Microsoft Connect.
